Thompson have developed an operator interface system which is programmed as standard to provide all the basic facilities needed to set-up and operate a friction welding machine. The operator interface uses a panel mounted industrial computer with full colour display and integrated keyboard while the computer has built-in hard disk and CD-Rom drive for data archive and retrieval.
The flexibility inherent in the PC-compatible platform means that almost any special features required for a particular application can be provided. It makes use of its colour display in a way that makes a great deal of information available in a readily understandable format. It is able to display graphical information when that format is useful.
The internal hard disk makes it possible to store a very large number of component parameter sets and, if required, a very large amount of historical weld playback data. The computer runs the latest Microsoft Windows operating system and all operator interface programs are specifically designed for these operating systems. The operating system provides support for peer-to-peer and server-based networks.
